Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer

First of all I’d like to apologise for my lack of blog posts recently, this has been due to the sheer amount of uni assignments I’ve had in recent weeks which has (sadly) left me little time to work on my blog. But to make up for this, I have a number of new fashion and beauty purchases that I will be sharing and reviewing in the next few weeks so keep an eye out.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer

When I realised I’d saved up enough Boots points to buy something nice, I decided to try out Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Concealer. Having always used Boi-ing and more recently, Rimmel’s Wake Me Up concealer, I wanted to try out the much raved about Double Wear range to see what all the fuss was about. Since the weather has become colder, my skin doesn’t get as much Vitamin D as it did in the summer and this has definitely had an effect on my skin so a longer lasting concealer was in need anyway.

Before trying this concealer I was worried that it might be slightly drying on my skin or make it feel quite cloggy, but I haven’t found either of these to be a problem. I apply Double Wear over my foundation and blend it in using a concealer brush and for me this really works. I find that it does last all day and is fairly lightweight on my skin so I don’t feel like I have a face full of makeup. That said, I don’t think you could wear this concealer on it’s own without any foundation underneath because it is quite a thick consistency and may not blend into the skin very well on its own. For those of you who are looking for a concealer to wear without a foundation, I would recommend the Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer which I have reviewed here.

I bought Estee Lauder’s concealer in a shade 02 (light/medium) but it is also available in eight other shades, so there is a match for all types of skin tones. It also has an SPF of 10 and is oil-free as well as being water, perspiration and humidity-resistant. If you are interested in buying this concealer then pop to your closest Estee Lauder counter for someone to match the perfect colour to your skin tone.

The Lecture Makeup Look

Quite a few of you have probably started back at university so I’ve decided to talk you through a makeup look perfect for a lecture. If you’re anything like me a 9 o’clock start is such a killer, especially if you’ve been out late the night before, so the longer you can stay in bed, the better. I tend to wear minimal makeup in the day, mainly because I don’t have the time to spend in the morning, but I do try to make it look like I have made some effort with this quick and simple makeup routine.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer

Wake Me Up Rimmel Concealer

Having always used and loved Benefit Boi-ing concealer as part of my everyday makeup look, I was sceptical to try out a new one, but with little funds I needed to find a cheaper alternative without compromising on quality. As brilliant as the coverage is with Boi-ing, it is quite thick and can sometimes dry out your skin, especially when it starts to get cold, so I also wanted a slightly runnier concealer.

Whilst browsing the makeup in Boots I came across the Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer and decided to give it go. According to Rimmel it is the ‘first full coverage concealer that visibly reawakens and illuminates under the eyes’ and it does just that!

I bought this in Ivory and it is a perfect match to my (pale) skin, but it is available to buy in True Ivory, Classic Beige and Soft Beige aswell. It sits nicely on top of foundation but I would say that you don’t need to apply too much of it as it can make your skin quite dewy. The applicator makes this really easy to apply and I found it best to blend using my fingers rather than a concealer brush as it makes it longer lasting. The only downfall is that it doesn’t have a great coverage on blemishes so if you do have spot prone skin I would maybe suggest getting a slightly thicker concealer.

That said, for £5.49 I think it’s a great, well priced concealer to add to your makeup collection. What do you think of Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer?

The Pore Fessional Primer

The PoreFessional Primer Benefit

I had never used a primer as part of my make-up routine until I was given this tester at the Benefit counter in Boots, so I decided to give it a go and I absolutely love it.

The primer minimises the appearance of pores and leaves your skin looking smooth and radiant. Having always just applied moisturiser under my foundation, I often found it didn’t last for very long and would rub off by the end of the day, but when I used this it gave me a lasting finish. Pore Fessional is like a balm, so you apply a small amount either on its own or under foundation. It’s also great because it contains vitamins and uses an oil free formula to compliment all skin types. Although it is quite pricey at £24.40, I would definitely recommend it and I will purchasing it on my next trip into town.

My Everyday Makeup

I’ve seen quite a few posts about makeup people use on a daily basis and seeing as I love reading them, I thought I would do my own. I own lots of different makeup brands that I like to use certain items from. Every once in a while I mix things up a bit as I get bored of certain products and like to try out new ones. In the summer I like to go for a natural look using a browny/gold palette on my eyes and a nude lipstick.

The Ultimate Hangover Guide

Unfortunately, at some point in our lives (especially if you’re currently a student), we will all be privy to a rather chronic hangover. Sickness, a painful headache, tiredness, dizziness and generally feeling like the ground should swallow you up are just several of the typical ‘hangover’ symptoms but don’t panic – I have put together a list of the top 5 hangover cures so you’ll be feeling fresh as ever before you know it!

The best way to avoid a hangover in the first place would be to avoid mixing your drinks – we all know this doesn’t end well. Why not drink water in between drinks to re hydrate yourself? Not only does this avoid the banging headache you usually wake up with, but keeps your skin hydrated throughout the night.

Alcohol is a ‘diuretic’ meaning it removes fluids from the body and therefore leaves you and your skin feeling dehydrated, so my top tip to get you well on your way to recovery is to drink lots of water in the morning!

Moisturise:
We’ve all had that moment when we look in the mirror after a night out and nearly scream when we see how dull and tired our skin looks! It sucks, right? Luckily Garnier Moisture Match is to our rescue! It is designed to improve a dull complexion, of all skin types, so simply apply a small amount to your face and neck and watch a miracle happen in front of your eyes.

Exercise:
It might sound crazy, and yes, you probably can’t think of anything worse than to go for a run after a night out but the fresh air works a treat! Even if you aren’t sprinting, a brisk walk around the park will help you sweat out your hangover and you will build up a healthy appetite ready for my next tip.

A Good Burger:
Nothing can get rid of a hangover more than a good burger. That shaking feeling you usually get around midday will be sorted right out. Plus – who needs an excuse to eat a burger?

Face mask:
My favourite face mask is Elemis Herbal Lavender Repair Mask but this is pretty pricey so any face mask will do! All you have to do is leave this on your skin for 10 – 15 minutes and the soothing lavender oil will deep cleanse and re balance your skin so you are as good as new – no one will ever know you went out the night before!

Bronzer:
Nothing can help dull and pale skin like a bit of bronzer. This will immediately freshen you up and give you a healthy glow. My favourite bronzer is Hoola by Benefit but all bronzers will do the job!

If you want to skip a hangover altogether you can always drink non-alcoholic cocktails – these are great as you can sit with a yummy drink and not stress about the effects of drinking (or the calories). My favourite recipe is by Wayne Collins, it’s a healthy alternative to a Mojito:

Mint Lemonade
Ingredients:

  • large handful fresh mint, leaves picked
  • 6 lemons, juice and zest of 3
  • 3 tbsp sugar cane syrup
  • sparkling mineral water, to top up

Method:

  • Place the mint leaves into a tea towel and bruise with a rolling pin.
  • Add the mint to a pitcher, with the lemon juice and zest and sugar cane syrup.
  • Top up with sparkling water. Mix the cocktail well and add more sugar cane syrup, to taste.
  • Chill in the fridge.

So there you have it – your ultimate guide to beat the hangover!
